Heavy traffic in the end of the holidays. What are the restrictions?

Heavy traffic is expected on the last of the three-day weekend. More than 700 police teams will control it, and in addition to these patrols drones will also be deployed to combat reckless drivers. They will monitor reckless drivers and these who are in the emergency lanes.

From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., trucks weighing more than 12 metric tons are prohibited from traveling on Bulgaria’s highways, as well as through the Kresna Gorge.

One of the most critical points is usually the route from Greece to Sofia, where traffic is already backed up in the area of Kresna and the Kresna Gorge. Around noon, however, the worst traffic jam is in the direction of Greece. There is also a serious traffic jam on the Struma Expressway heading toward Sofia. Many drivers are trying to bypass it by taking Route E-79, but this is not currently recommended because cleanup efforts following the flooding are still underway in Strumyani.

Meanwhile, traffic restrictions are in place for trucks weighing more than 12 metric tons on the Trakiya and Hemus highways. The restriction took effect at 12:00 p.m. and will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m.  On the Trakiya Highway, the ban will apply from Ihtiman to Vakarel, and on the Hemus Highway, it will apply to the section from Sofia to the 90-kilometer mark.
