Annual inflation stands at 3.5%, with restaurants and education also reporting notable increases, data from NSI shows
The largest annual price increase in Bulgaria in January was recorded in the “Entertainment, Sports and Culture” category, which includes veterinary services, package holidays, fitness services and dance-related activities. The data was presented by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov on Tuesday.
Prices in restaurants and hotels increased by 9.2%, while educational services' prices rose by 8%, reflecting higher fees at various schools and some universities.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products recorded a 6% increase, and food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 3.9%.
Price decreases were reported in healthcare, information and communication, and transport.
“Monthly inflation in January compared to December stood at 0.6%, while annual inflation in January compared to the same month last year was 3.5%. The difference between the flash estimate and the final data is only 0.1 percentage point,” Atanasov said.
