Bulgaria has a hydroxychloroquine in stock that would be sufficient for the treatment of 2 500 people, potentially positive for COVID-19

“The company “Bul Bio Ltd” has all the necessary to supply the whole country with the medicine hydroxychloroquine”, said Todor Kantardzhiev on Thursday. He is the current director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and a prime member of the COVID-19 response team in Bulgaria.

On Thursday the PM Boyko Borissov and the chief of the coronavirus crisis response team General Ventsislav Mutafchiyski made an inspection on site. They were accompanied by the Pirogov Hospital director prof. Asen Baltov.

It was made clear that at this very moment Bulgaria has a hydroxychloroquine in stock that would be sufficient for the treatment of 2 500 people, potentially positive for COVID-19. There are more doses of the medicine that were donated to the Health ministry, the officials said.

“Having enough stock of hydroxychloroquine in every single hospital across the country would give even more confidence to the doctors who treat the virus”, Kantardzhiev said.

Gen. Mutafchiyski made a strong statement that the success of the country, battling the pandemic is indisputable. “There is no clear sign when will the outbreak ends. Having this medicine in reserve in a wide range of hospitals around the country would give Bulgaria a further methods for independent fight against the virus”, he said. 

The Prime minister Borissov announced that there is already a planned visit on site at the Italian hospital, working with COVID-19 positive patients.
