A meteorite was found near bulgarian town Montana. It was presented during the National Gathering of Gold Prospectors and Metal Detecting Enthusiasts.
The extraterrestrial rock is impressively large. It was found in a mountainous area near the city. An “XP DEUS II” metal detector was used.
Such finds are extremely rare, Kiril Stamenov of the Bulgarian Association of Prospectors for Native Gold and Meteorites told NOVA. He added that the stone is set to be examined, certified and listed in the official bulletins.
Preliminary analyses indicate a high nickel content, which is one of the indicators of its origin.
