Dimitar Stoyanov: There is no risk to national security posed by the U.S. Aircraft at Sofia Airport

There is no risk to national security posed by the U.S. aircraft at Sofia Airport. Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov gave this assurance. Two U.S. military transport planes landed at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia early this morning. The planes were spotted around 7:00 a.m.

“These aircraft have diplomatic clearance, which is blanket in nature and is granted at the end of the year to all allied nations”, the defense minister explained. “They have the right to use our airports, to make temporary stops for refueling and crew rest, and then to take off again. This isn’t something that’s just starting to happen. It’s just that, following the refueling aircraft’s stay, much more attention and interest has been directed toward it”, Stoyanov explained.
