Velislava Petrova met Iva Mihaylova's mother and assured her of the government's support

The Bulgarian government will make every effort to ensure justice is served in the case of Iva Mihaylova, said Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova, who met today Hristina Mihaylova - the young woman’s mother. This was announced by the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

Minister Petrova expressed both her institutional and personal concern and sympathy for the serious health condition of the 23-year-old Bulgarian woman and the difficult situation she and her family find themselves in, the MFA noted.

The foreign minister briefed Hristina Mihaylova on the steps the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken so far regarding the refusal by the authorities in the neighboring country to allow Iva to receive the medical treatment she needs abroad. Bulgaria is providing the necessary support to ensure the best possible legal protection in this case, according to a statement from our Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Petrova emphasized that our country remains unwaveringly committed to efforts for a swift and successful resolution of the case. “Please convey to Iva that she is not alone and can continue to count on our support during this difficult time for her and for you”, Petrova added.

On August 31, citizens gathered in support of Iva Mihaylova in front of the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia. The demonstration was organized by the “Macedonia” Foundation.

On the last day of August, a court hearing was held in Kočani, Republic of North Macedonia, in the case against Iva Mihaylova. Members of the Bulgarian Parliament attended the hearing to monitor the proceedings and ensure that Mihaylova’s right to a fair trial was upheld.
