Road infrastructure agency urges drivers to prepare their cars for winter conditions

The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) is urging drivers planning to travel in the coming days to set off in vehicles prepared for winter conditions. Light snowfall was reported at Petrohan Pass on Tuesday, while meteorologists are forecasting worsening weather, precipitation and falling temperatures. Snow is expected in the Stara Planina, Vitosha, Rila and Pirin mountain ranges, the agency said.

Regional road administrations are monitoring the weather forecast and are ready to take the necessary measures to treat road surfaces in high-altitude areas and mountain passes if needed.

The Road Infrastructure Agency advises drivers to exercise increased caution, drive at an appropriate speed and keep a safe distance. They should also avoid sudden manoeuvres and refrain from overtaking snow-clearing vehicles.

Vehicles that are not prepared for winter conditions can block traffic, making journeys more difficult for other drivers and hindering the work of snow-clearing equipment.

Citizens and transport companies can obtain information about current road conditions and winter maintenance of the national road network on the RIA website, www.api.bg, or by calling 0700 130 20 at any time of the day or night. The agency operates a Situation Centre around the clock throughout the year, collecting and compiling information on the condition of national roads.
