The first two U.S. tanker aircraft landed at Bezmer Air Base. The Ministry of Defense confirmed this to NOVA. A total of up to eight aircraft are expected to arrive in Bulgaria, along with up to 250 support personnel.

Regarding the security situation, the Ministry of Defense states that the relevant agencies are conducting a daily assessment of the situation. At this time, the assessment is that there is no direct threat to the country. Bulgarian and allied forces have taken all necessary measures to ensure security, the ministry emphasized.

The aircraft are arriving just two weeks after discussions began regarding the possibility of granting permission for U.S. military aircraft to be based at the Bezmer Air Base near Yambol. It was precisely then that protests by local residents began.

The Ministry of Defense announced that all necessary security and safety measures are currently in place - both for the region and for the military aircraft. Security measures have been significantly stepped up. They are being carried out by both the Military Police and military personnel. A large perimeter around the Bezmer Air Base is under constant and strict control.
