It was delivered under a project funded by the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure 2020-2027

“In astronomy, scientists work in networks, they can be European and global, and with the help of this telescope, our scientists in Bulgaria will fully participate in the study of stars, comets, asteroids,” Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told journalists at the unveiling of the new robotic telescope of the Institute of Astronomy with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, at the Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory.

"It is modern, it is financed by the Ministry of Education and Science, i.e. by the Bulgarian state. Bulgarian astronomy has very strong traditions. Some of the best astronomers in the world are Bulgarians. There is a very famous researcher at Harvard, Dimitar Sasselov, who leads the university's extraterrestrial life programme. This is the Bulgarian school in astronomy, it deserves such an instrument that we see today," the Prime Minister said.

The telescope was delivered under a project funded by the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure 2020-2027, coordinated by the Ministry of Education.

With the latest-generation robotic telescope, the Rozhen Observatory maintains its position as the leading astronomical complex in Southeast Europe, its director Nikola Petrov said.
