An orange heat warning is in place for the lowland areas of Bulgaria, with thunderstorms and hail possible in the northeast
The first full week of August will end with hot weather, although the most intense heat will ease slightly. Saturday morning will be sunny and almost cloudless. Temperatures will peak at between 32°C and 38°C. Bulgaria’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued an orange heat warning for the lowland areas of the country.
During the second half of the day, brief summer showers will develop. In the northern half of the country, particularly in the far northeast, conditions will be favourable for more intense thunderstorm activity, with a risk of hail.
In the early hours of Sunday, more substantial cloud cover and possible rain are expected in northwestern and central northern Bulgaria. In the afternoon, localised rainfall is expected in the southwestern regions and along the coast. Daytime temperatures will range between 31°C and 36°C.
The coming week will also be sunny and hot. Daytime temperatures will remain up to 36-37°C. Early forecasts indicate that around Thursday there may be more significant temporary increases in cloud cover, with localised rainfall in northern Bulgaria. This disturbance will be followed by a period of sunny weather.
