A Bulgarian man is missing following the disaster in Nepal

A Bulgarian national is missing following the sudden floods and mudslides that struck the border region between Nepal and the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet. This is according to the updated list released by the Nepal Tourism Board on August 27, 2026.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the embassies of the Republic of Bulgaria in Beijing and Delhi, has been officially notified by the Chinese authorities of a missing Bulgarian citizen as a result of the floods in Tibet and Nepal.

Our embassies in China and India are in constant contact with the authorities in the affected region and are monitoring the situation as it develops. All reports and information received are being verified and clarified; however, in cases involving missing Bulgarian citizens where all facts and circumstances have not yet been established, and before their relatives are notified, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot provide personal data or confirm their identities.

Our embassy in Beijing has assisted a Bulgarian citizen in contacting his wife, who was traveling as part of an organized tour in the affected region; she is safe and is currently in Tibet.

A Bulgarian citizen in Nepal has contacted our diplomatic mission in Delhi. She is safe but has lost her personal documents. Our embassy in Delhi has provided her with remote assistance in obtaining a temporary passport from the mission of an EU member state in Nepal.

A document from the Nepal Tourism Board lists a total of 644 people from various countries who, as of 12:00 p.m. local time, are still listed as missing.

The death toll from the disaster stands at 162. Nearly 1,500 people are missing. Among the 570 tourists missing in Nepal are 517 foreigners from 33 countries, representatives of the tourism sector said Thursday, as quoted by Reuters.
