The President expects the National Assembly to rise to the occasion as an institution and meet the expectations of Bulgarian citizens

The name of the vice president will be announced next week, President Iliyana Yotova said. She announced that on September 8, the initiative committee to nominate her for the upcoming presidential election will be established, and its chairperson will be announced.

"I expect there to be a consensus on the selection of a new Supreme Judicial Council. The National Assembly is at fault as an institution because it was unable to determine its parliamentary quota for a long time. The SJC’s term, which has expired many years ago, is one of the main reasons for the lack of trust in the judicial system among us, the Bulgarian citizens”. The president made this statement to reporters in response to a question about whether Parliament would be able to secure a majority of 160 votes for the election of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Yotova expects the National Assembly to rise to the occasion as an institution and meet the expectations of Bulgarian citizens. “People of integrity must be nominated, and the process must be transparent, with the participation of all parliamentary groups - both the ruling coalition and the opposition. The process must also be sufficiently transparent when determining the professional quota”, Iliyana Yotova noted. “If we once again sow seeds of doubt about the way the SJC is elected, if there are once again rumors and insinuations regarding the arguments used to propose members, we will have accomplished nothing”, the head of state emphasized.
