O'Brien pointed out that the sanctions were imposed in solidarity with the EU
Ambassador Jim O'Brien, Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination at the U.S. Department of State, said on Friday that the sanctions imposed by his country aim to support the judicial reform in Bulgaria. O'Brien pointed out that the sanctions were imposed in solidarity with the EU, which has insisted on reform of the Bulgarian judicial system.
The US was pleased to see steps taken in this direction by the Bulgarian Parliament, but disappointed that this important legislation was not completed.
O'Brien took part remotely in a meeting at the US Embassy in Sofia, which was also attended by the British Ambassador to Bulgaria, Dr Rob Dixon.
