She was elected after the resignation of Borislav Sarafov
The Prosecutors’ College of the Supreme Judicial Council in Bulgaria appointed Vanya Stefanova as acting prosecutor general for the next six months. She is to replace Borislav Sarafov after his resignation.
The decision was taken unanimously and without debate, and can be appealed within 14 days.
Stefanova has been serving as a deputy prosecutor general, a post she took up on Sarafov’s recommendation in January 2025.
