European heads of state and government had working sessions with Ukrainian President President Volodymyr Zelensky within the framework of the Special European Council in Brussels, President Rumen Radev's Press Secretariat reported on Thursday evening.
Radev participated in a working session together with Austrian Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
The meeting focused on the ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, the challenges facing the Ukrainian energy sector in winter conditions, the difficulties in supply chains, the humanitarian consequences of the war, as well as Ukraine's ambition for European integration.
Radev underlined the consistent humanitarian support Bulgaria provides to Ukraine, including to the large Bulgarian diaspora in there, as well as to the tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens who have sought refuge from the conflict in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria's energy policy creates conditions for real diversification in the supply of energy resources for the whole region, which can also benefit Ukraine. The head of State reiterated that nuclear energy is of strategic importance for the future of Bulgaria's energy and economy and Bulgaria cannot accept the imposition of sanctions in this area.
