A high-level conference, called "Bulgaria on the Road to the Euro", was held in Sofia on Friday. It has been organized  by the Ministry of Finance.

In his speech during the event President Rumen Radev highlighted a number of economic advantages that membership in the currency union brings, with the major goal being that Bulgarians live better lives and the economy be more competitive. The head of state called on parties to abandon populism and work for the accession of this country to the Eurozone.

Before that, at the beginning of the conference, Prime Minister Galab Donev pointed out that joining the Eurozone was a factor that would contribute to Bulgaria becoming richer.

"It is not only about the replacement of leva with euro. It is about joining the core of the EU. It is very important that Bulgaria continues on the path taken. The euro brings stability in this turbulent environment," the Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said.
