EC Vice-President Jourova commends Bulgaria's progress in judicial reform

European Commission (EC) Vice-President Vera Jourova praised the efforts of the team of Justice Minister Krum Zarkov on the legislative amendments related to the reform of the judiciary and in particular the establishment of the accountability and control mechanism of the Prosecutor General, the Ministry of Justice said on Thursday. 

In a videoconference with Zarkov, Jourova stressed that the EC expects these efforts to continue and to culminate in the adoption of the key amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, the Judicial System Act and other laws. According to her, the timely adoption of these reforms is important to achieve the objective of the final closure of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Bulgaria, to fulfil the commitments in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and to have a positive report on Bulgaria under the EU's horizontal Rule of Law Mechanism.

The two officials also discussed the results achieved so far and the priorities of the Ministry of Justice in the coming months. Minister Zarkov assured that the relevant bills will be submitted on the first working day of the new parliament.
