The President of the organization of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom Dr. Alexander Oskar read a commendation address from Jewish organizations to the Bulgarian institutions

At a solemn ceremony in the Sofia synagogue, representatives of several Bulgarian institutions received thanking letters from Jewish and human rights organizations for preventing the so-called Lukov March from taking place in Sofia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Sofia Municipality, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) were awarded.

The President of the organization of the Jews in Bulgaria Shalom Dr. Alexander Oskar read a commendation address from Jewish organizations to the Bulgarian institutions.

Thank you for not allowing Sofia to be a centre of hatred and division and for not allowing the streets of our capital to be a stage for people with far-right and extremist ideas to march, the address said. "We thank you for the fact that, through your actions and the coordination of all institutions, Bulgaria has shown that it values its democratic values and foundations and the unity of all citizens and guests of our country. Thank you for not allowing our young citizens to be misled and, by inviting them to celebrate historical figures, to become part of the revival of ideas that are dangerous for our whole society. We thank you that this is not a one-off decision, but a step for the consistent work in support of democracy and against hate speech," address added.

Alexander Oskar reminded that in a few days Bulgaria will mark the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews. In his words, this has happened thanks to the united efforts of Bulgarian politicians, public figures, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, and numerous known and unknown people.
