The Municipal Council defeated a motion to build a memorial of the founders of the Bulgarian State on the site of the Soviet Army Monument

Sitting on Thursday, the Sofia Municipal Council approved a report assigning Mayor Yordanka Fandakova to ask central government to remove the State-owned Soviet Army Monument from the Princely Garden in the city centre and exhibit the sculptures at the Museum of Art from the Socialist Period with the National Gallery or on another suitable site outside downtown.

The resolution was passed after a lengthy debate by 41 votes in favour (GERB-UDF, Democratic Bulgaria, Patriots for Sofia and independent municipal councillors), 13 against (BSP for Bulgaria) and one abstention (Dimitar Antonov of Patriots for Sofia).
