Temperatures are expected to reach 33–38°C

A yellow warning for dangerously high temperatures has been issued for much of Bulgaria for August 20. The only areas not covered by the warning on Thursday are Dobrich, Varna, Burgas and small parts of Montana, Vidin, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Sofia Province.

Tomorrow will be sunny and hot. In the morning, low cloud or reduced visibility is expected over the far eastern parts of the country.

In the afternoon, slight cumulus cloud will develop mainly over the Rhodope Mountains. Winds will be light, moderate from the southeast in the eastern regions. Maximum temperatures will range between 33°C and 38°C, slightly lower along the coast, and around 34°C in Sofia.

The weather in the mountains will also be sunny. In the afternoon, slight cumulus cloud will develop over the Rhodopes. Winds will be moderate from the southeast, shifting to northwesterly in the highest and most exposed areas. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 meters will be around 28°C, and at 2,000 meters – 21°C.

The Black Sea coast will also be mostly sunny. Low cloud or reduced visibility is expected in the morning. Winds will be light, becoming moderate from the southeast in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will range between 26°C and 30°C. Sea water temperatures will be 24–25°C. Sea conditions will be around force 2.

By the end of the week, temperatures are likely to reach as high as 40°C. The hot and dry weather creates a serious risk of wildfires. In half of Bulgaria, the fire danger level is at the highest possible level. Rapid spreading of large fire fronts that could be difficult to control is possible.
