The defense minister stated that he is not guided by newspaper articles, but by documents he receives from our intelligence agencies

I am not guided by newspaper articles, but by documents I receive from our intelligence agencies. Yesterday I received a document from the Military Intelligence Service, which clearly states that there is no direct threat to our national security. There is also no danger to facilities housing U.S. aircraft or to other facilities located on Bulgarian territory. This was the assurance given by Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov in response to a report in the "Financial Times" that Iran is considering attacks against U.S. military facilities in Europe, including Bulgaria.

According to him, the Italian defense minister also responded that he would not advise the "Financial Times" to make such statements. “I would share his opinion. These are statements that sow unnecessary panic among the population, and there is no need for them. We are monitoring the situation closely enough. We receive information from partner intelligence services on a daily basis. We are keeping track of the situation and at this time there really is no such threat to our country”, the defense minister added.

“Today we sought information from the United Kingdom regarding this article. There has been no change in the security environment”, Stoyanov stated categorically. “The documents prepared by the Military Intelligence Service are sent to the prime minister, the speaker of the National Assembly and the president of the Republic, so they have access to the same documents that I have”, he added.
