The youngest child is 6 and the oldest is 17

Seventeen Serbian children were taken to the university hospital in the southern Bulgarian town of Stara Zagora Sunday evening after their bus had an accident on Trakia Motorway. The youngest child is 6 and the oldest is 17, hospital director Prof. Yovcho Yovchev told BTA.

The Health Ministry said that eight children and four adults had to stay in hospital.

Health Minister Assen Medzhidiev is expected to provide more information at a news briefing at 07:40 on Monday morning.

According to the Stara Zagora hospital director, the patients will get a scan to establish their injuries. He also said a man who was also injured in the accident will have one leg amputated. 

Eye-witenesses told BTA that the children were returning home to Batajnica, near Belgrade, from the Bulgarian resort of Sunny Beach.

Tens of cars stopped to help the bus passengers. Among them was a doctor.

Trakia Motorway was wet after heavy rain showers in Stara Zagora region on Sunday.
